The Army Emergency Relief is a non profit division of the military incorporated in 1942. Their set purpose is to assist military families, who's income is greatly reduced because of military service. AER funds are made available to commanders having AER sections to provide emergency assistance to soldiers -active and retired - and their dependents when there is a valid need.
So many people claim to be for the soldier, even if they are against the war. Donating to the AER is a very good way of showing that support for the soldier. The AER has the highest ethical standards as seen by their consistently high rating by Charity Navigator, America's largest evaluator of charities.
Although AER receives administrative support from the Army, it doesn't receive any funding from the Army. That's why donations are so important. 88% of your money donated goes directly toward soldier programs. So if times are hard on you, imagine how hard they must be for a soldier. Donate, if you can.
