Movie List

Daddy Day-Care -- PG

A "guy" flick. It is funny and has body function humor. Don't ask why men like this. Just know that we do! It also allows men to believe (if only for 2 hours) we can do anything women can do. Small children will think this movie is funny and so will most men.

Date Movie -- R

Spoof movies are usually easy to make and fun to watch. This movie was the exception. Horrible movie that was mean spirited and very unfunny.

The DaVinci Code: -- PG-13

There is a lot of controversy about this movies premise of Jesus and Mary Magdalene marrying and having a child. Although this is a fictional premise (to be sure), it sparks a lot of feelings among both Christians and non-Christian. The movie is a basic treasure hunt story, with riddles and clues from distorted history, and it makes for a very good story. Fictional story. Tom Hanks gives a rather lackluster performance in an otherwise excellent cast.

Dawn of the Dead -- R

Everyone knows I'm not a good judge of horror movies. I LOVE them all! This is a great retelling of George Romero's commentary on American consumerism by having the zombies invade the mall. The special effects of today really make this a great film. Violence, language and sexual situations with nudity are the reason for this earned R.

Daytime's Greatest Weddings
not rated

This video is one for the housewives. Produced by ABC Soaps, it features some of the most watched weddings on TV soap operas. It has Luke and Laura from "General Hospital," the wedding on "One Life to Live," "All My Children" and the prison wedding of Erika and Jeremy. Strickly for those who enjoy soap operas; however (and there's always a however in life) if you like soap operas you'll love this video.

Death of a President -- R

If this movie had been about a fictional president, it would have been a decent film. But it’s about assassinating the sitting President of the United States. That makes it over the line. There is a line that shouldn’t be crossed, and this British production crosses it. A movie just for haters.

Deception -- R

A mild mannered accountant (Ewan McGregor) gets tricked into joining a sex club by a sinister lawyer (Hugh Jackman.)  Although he enjoys the benefits, the accountant soon learns about the cost.  He is suspected in the disappearance of a young woman and millions of dollars.

Deck the Halls -- PG

Danny Divito stars in this movie of "one upsmanship" with his neighbor, Mathew Broderick. Mathew is the town "Mr. Christmas"; the go to guy, the answer man, the light show -- until Danny shows up in town with his family. I really enjoyed this movie. Great fun.

Definitely, Maybe - - PG-13

Date flick of the year, this is a movie women will love and men will enjoy as they earn their sensitivity points.  A young daughter (Abigail Breslin) tries to figure out why her father and mother broke up by asking her father to explain how they met.

Deja Vu -- PG-13

The first 15 minutes will have the entire audience silent. This movie through a new twist on an old subject. Denzel is very good, Val Kilmer is very good and Paula Patton is beautiful and very good. She looks just like Halle Berry. This movie is worth checking out, but it may be too intense for small children.

Delta Farce -- PG-13

Larry the Cable Guy joins a band of National Guard goof offs who, during a call-up, invade Mexico, thinking it's the Iraqi desert. Silly humor, but funny nonetheless.

The Departed -- R

Jack Nickelson, Matt Damon, Martin Sheen, Mark Warberg, Leonard DeCaprio and even Alec Baldwin give outstanding performances in this "cop" drama directed by Martin Scorceses. A gangster plants a mole in the police department and the police plant an undercover agent in that gang. Each tries to find the identity of the other while doing the jobs the were sent for. Oustanding movie, though very, very violent.

Derailed – R

This thriller stars Jennifer Anniston and Clive Owen as two married people who have an affair that’s interrupted by a violent blackmailer. Try to not guess what’s happening, and this movie is very enjoyable.

The Devil Loves Prada -- PG-13

Meryl Streep makes the best villainess of the year in this movie about fashion, friendship and favoritism. Ann Hathaway has grown up from the little girl we saw in Princess Diary, and it’s a little like watching the girl from down the street that you watch grow up. This movie will make you think as well as laugh.

Deuce Bigalo: European Giggilo -- R

The second in a series of tales about male prostitutes, or "prostidudes" as they are called. This comedy is funnier than the first one and the situations are sexier. The R rating is for those very reasons. Deuce Bigalo goes to Europe to help prove his friend (Eddie Griffin) is innocent of killing Europe's "protidudes"

Diary of a Mad Black Woman -- PG-13

Based on a Tyler Perry play, this comedy/drama is the story of a woman (Kimberly Elise) who has been isolated and "kept" by her husband, only to be replaced by a younger woman on their 18th anniversary. With nowhere to go, she lands at auntie Madea’s home. Madea is a pistol packing, dope smoking, man hating, cussing maomma who teaches her niece her own worth. Drug references, sexual situations, vulgar language and violence earned this movie a PG-13 rating.

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights -- PG-13

The dancing is even more sensual than the original Dirty Dancing. The movie takes place in the late 1950's Cuba, before Baptiste left Cuba in the hands of Castro. The nature of the dancing, sexual situations and vulgar language is the reason for the 13 of the PG-13.

Dodgeball: -- A True Underdog Story PG-13

This movie is the funniest movie I have seen in several years. I laughed until I cried, each time I saw it. And I saw it three times. Rip Torn is a comedic genius. Always has been. And the many other performances were outstanding. No one was bad. I'm surprised this movie received a PG-13 rating, though. There was a scene in an opium den in China with many Chines smoking pipes. There were many, many strong sexual innuendoes. Some above the heads of kids, but most not. There was a demonstration of using wrenches thrown at people as a way to learn to get better at dodgeball. There was even a scene of one of the men running through traffic at rush hour, as a way to get better at dodgerball. All of these were extremely funny to adults, but totally unsuitable for kids. THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR KIDS UNDER 15, in my opinion.

Doom – R

Those who are familiar with video games will love this movie. Those who love action will love this movie. Those who love "The Rock" will love this movie. By the way, the movie is about the future.

The Door in the Floor -- R

Not for children. Let me say again...this movie is not for children. The movie is about comples relationships. Jeff Bridges, in an outstanding job of acting, is a children's book writer who also draws. His wife, Kim Bassinger in an equally outstanding role, is having trouble dealing with her 4 year old daughter because of the deaths of her older sons. Her despondency and his "flings" revent them from getting the help they need to change their lives. Jeffe Bridges hires a young man to drive and assist him with his book, and the young man becomes a piece of the puzzle that is their lives. The R rating is for nudity, numerous sexual situations, language and drug usuage.

Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat -- PG

What in the world was the rating board thinking when they gave this movie a PG rating? The sexual innuendoes, crouch jokes, phonetic spelling of curse words should have made this at least PG-13. Then he calls a rake a "dirty hoe" but says "I still love you, baby". Mother's do not let your men take the kids under 13 to this movie. The men will laugh and the kids will mimic the behavior because of it.

Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! -- G

Based on the children's book of the same name, this animated feature has the voices of Jim Carey, Carol Burnett, Steve Carrell and Will Arnett.  Teaches about finding what you excel in and going for it, even if it is different than everyone's expectations of you.

Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story -- G

This movie stars one of the five best actresses today – Dakota Fanning. It also has great performances by Elizabeth Shue, Kirk Russell and Kris Kristopherson. This hear-warming family filmtells the story of a horse that brings a family together.

Dreamgirls – PG-13

When I first saw it, I thought it wasn't as good as the original Broadway play. Then I went and got the original soundtrack and realized it was just as good as the original. Memory has a way of elevating your beliefs; especially if the beliefs are positive. Even though Jennifer Hudson, the new girl from American Idol, stole the movie, Beyonce', Eddie Murphy and even Jaime Fox were outstanding. But check out the lady that plays the role of Laurelle. If you notice closely, she is the only one of the women who appears to be dancing naturally, rather than being taught. She has the widest range of emotional growth – both musically and physically. She also is the most natural actor of them all. A wonderful movie fit for the family with several future stars to keep your eye out for.

Drillbit Taylor -- PG-13

A story with Owen Wilson as the title character.  He's a bum - pure and simple - but he applies to be the bodyguard of three high school freshmen.  He secretly plans to rob their home when he gets in good with them, but he begins to truly care.  A heartwarming, funny story.

Dukes of Hazzard -- PG-13

This movie had a lot of controversy about it's sexiness because of of Jessica Simpson. I thought she was more sexually reserved than the television Daisy Duke. This movie. Like the TV series, was really about the car; the General Lee. The PG-13 rating, I felt, was appropriate. By the way, how does someone with the nickname of "Cooter" have the nerve to talk about family entertainment anyway?

Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd -- PG-13

The title explains what you need to be to pay full price for this movie. The movie plays on the popularity of the first movie, Dumb and Dumber, with actors who look like a younger version of Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels. Unfortunately, they don't act like a younger version. There is a fantasy sexual scene with females "making out", crude humor, and one character uses the "sh" word over 15 time in a row. Twice.
