Movie List

Nacho Libre – PG

I like the concept of a cook wrestling to raise money for his childhood orphanage, and I really like the comedy of Jack Black. Having said that, I really disliked this movie. The main reason is I found it distasteful to have Jack Black playing a role intended to be Hispanic. Maybe it’s because I’m over 50 years old, and I’ve seen white actors play, Hispanics, Indians, Chinese, Native Americans – even Amos and Andy on the radio. I’m tired of that.

National Treasure -- PG

A fun action Indiana Jones style movie. This movie has just enough history to make it believable, The main unbelievable part is the founding fathers finding a treasure of immense value – and not spending it! Don’t try to find loopholes in the movie. Get your popcorn, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride. Nicholas Cage is very good as the last member of a family that has looked for this treasure for 200 years to help protect it. When he discovers the location is in code on the back of the Declaration of Independence, he has to steal it, to protect it.

Never Die Alone -- R

Although David Arquette's name is at the top of the billboard, make no mistake about it. This is a DMX vanity film. DMX plays a drug dealing, women-victimizing murderer seeking redemption in his home town. And he's the heroe. Not for kids OR most adults. Glorifies drug usuage, sexual abuse, and murder. SHould be NC-17.

New York Minute -- PG

One of the most degrading movies in years. You have a white Andy Richter thinking he's Chinese and talking with a "so-called" Chinese accent. The Hindu's were store owners with extremely filthy bathrooms. Anytime a badge was shown, all black men raised their hands in an act of surrender. The "Bling-bling" beauty shop stereotyped the black females as all having big booty's and dancing as they applied wild hair-dos. Not one single friend of the twins was of a minority . Since this movie was targeted for young, white females, an entire generation of young girls are being reinforced with negative stereotypes of minorities. Although it received a PG rating, it should have never seen the light of day as it is.

Night at the Museum – PG

The one thing most kids fear actually happens in this movie! Everything in the museum comes to life after dark! I LOVED this movie for the performances of Ben Stiller and Robin Williams, of course, however – and there's always a however in life – the cavemen, the cowboys and the Roman soldiers were equally outstanding. Great family film.

Night Listener -- R

Robin Williams delivers another Academy award worthy performance as a gay disc jockey who is devastated over the lost off his lover. He then finds a young boy who is a listener to his show who tells him a story of abuse and redemption. The young boy is hiding out with his foster mother in a small town. Or is he? Oustanding movie!

Night Watch -- R

Since the beginning of time, good and evil have been locked in a battle for control of humankind. During a stalemate battle, the Forces of Light and the Forces of Dark form a truce that last 1000 years. Now, one of the soldiers of Light finds he's involved in a prophecy about the return of the Chosen One to bring about victory for mankind and the Forces of Light. He has to find out and protect a child that might be the Chosen One, before the Forces of Dark can get the boy to chose their side. A confusing Russian movie, that has Vampires in it.

Nim's Island - - PG

This wonderful family film starring Abigail Breslin, Jody Foster and Gerard Butler is about an 11 year old girl living on an isolated island with her scientist father.  When he goes missing in a storm, she reaches out to the only person she thinks can help her find him -- a reclusive author that writes action hero books in the first person.  Loved it.

North Country – R

Great acting, but too preachy movie about the Minnesota case that spurred the sexual harassment lawsuits across the country. Great all around acting, but if Frances McDermond doesn’t win the academy award, something is wrong.

The Notebook PG-13

Based on a book by Nicholas Sparks -- the writer of A Walk To Remember -- this movie is the one men want to take their ladies to, if they want to earn sensitivity points. A very romantic tearjerker of a movie, this film deals with aging with Alzheimers' disease. Sexual theme gives this the PG-13 rating. Very good performances by Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner and Gena Rowlins. Bring the tissue!
