Movie List
Radio -- PG
Very good adaptation of a true story. Cuba Goodin, Jr. sold the part of Radio, and Ed Harris is masterful as the coach. A feel good movie for the entire family.
Raising Helen -- PG-13
Kate Hudson has the life everyone wants. She's living in New York interviewing models, going to great parties, meeting powerful and influential people in the entertainment industry and having no responsibility to anyone but herself. When one of her sisters dies, leaving Kate to care for her sister's three children, she has to quickly learn what is truly important in life. Sexual situations give this movie it's PG-13 rating.
Rambo - - R
This supposedly final chapter to the Rambo series is one of the most violent movies I have ever seen. It has mass child killing, blood splatters, mutilations and war killings. Strangely enough, though, I enjoyed this movie. It was good to see the character again in action. Not as good as the last Rocky, but well worth the money to see.
Ray PG-13
Ray is the story of Ray Charles, the musician, told with power and pride. This movie takes an X rated life and portray it in a PG-13 manner, without diluting the truth, because the subject of the movie is so important to American culture. Ray Charles is one of the most beloved performers in the world; yet, he could be demanding and demeaning . The performances in this movie of Ray Charles (Jamie Fox), Della Bea (Kerry Washington), Aretha Robinson (Sharon Warren), Margie Hendricks (Regina King) and Jeff Brown (Clifton Powell) are all Oscar worthy. Bokeem Woodbine and Harry Lennix do their usual outstanding performances also. If you are a fan of either country western, jazz, rhythm & blues or straight blues, you will love this movie. If you are a fan of success stories against impossible odds, youll love this movie. If you like good movies, youll love this movie.
Rebound PG
Martin Lawrence stars in this funny adaptation of The Bad News Bears on the basketball court. Lawrence is a college coach who gets suspended for his rude and bad behavior, so he coaches a middle school basketball team that hasn't even scored in their first few games. He teaches then about basketball, and they remind him about passion.
Redbelt -- R
A movie set in America of a mix martial artist (Chiwetel Ejiofor) for whom martial arts are a way of life; not a sport. Circumstances cause him to rethink his feelings about tournament sports, as he prepares to participate in a tournament for money.
The Ring Two -- PG-13
This will be a short review. This is one of the worst movies so far this year (2005). The only sequel (not 3 or 4, but 2) that has ever been worse was Blade Witch. I won't evn tell you anything more about this movie.
The Ringer -- PG-13
This stars Johnny Knoxville as a normal ( thats a relative term!) man who pretends to be mentally challenged so that he can join the Special Olympics and fix the games. His uncle convinces him that this way, they can make a killing gambling. Even though it is endorsed by the Special Olympics, and it gives acting opportunities to many of the actual Special Olympic and mentally challenged individuals, many parents and relatives of mentally challenged individuals will not find this funny. Its like watching an old man slip on the ice. If hes not hurt, you want to laugh as you help him up.
Rize -- PG-13
A documentary about an after school dance movement out of Los Angeles of "clowning" and "krumping". The energy and movement of the dancers as they compete against each other is awesome. The PG-13 rating is due to drug references, brief nudity and sensual movements.
Rocky Balboa PG
When you are relatively successful in your prime earning years, and you've planned for your retirement, and you have children to carry on your legacy, you think you will be comfortable in your advancing years. However and there's always a however in life what about loss? Loss of respect of those very children through no fault of your own. Loss of the abilities that enabled you to earn success in your prime. Loss of someone to share your advancing years with. Then what? That is what this movie is all about. Watch it with your kids.
Robots -- PG
In a world of mechanical creatures, Rodney Copperbottom (Ewan McGregor) is considered a great inventor. When he travels to the "big city" to work with his idol, Mr. Bigweld (Mel Brooks), he discovers that being smart isn't always enough for success. This movie has so many stars lending their voices (Robin Williams, Halle Berry, Terry Bradshaw, Amanda Byrnes, Drew Carey, Jennifer Coolidge, Paul Giamatti, Dan Heydaya, Jay Leno, Al Roker, and many, many more) and the artwork is absolutely unbelievable. Rated PG and even though it is mainly for the kids, adults will enjoy watching it also.
Roll Bounce -- PG-13
If you enjoy the music of the late 70s, youll love this exercise in nostalgia. When the local ice rink in the "hood" is closed, due to finances, the young blacks have to journey to the suburbs to skate. Naturally, the are criticized for being poor, and they have a competition to show their mettle. A subplot about a motherless Bow Wow (the rapper, not the sound) and his dealings with his father is surprisingly strong.
Rugrats Go Wild -- PG
The Rugrat gang gets trapped on a deserted island and find the Thornberry's there. I like the Wild Thornberry's, but I don't like the Rugrats. I don't find bad, bug-eating, disobedient children amusing. Some do. The visuals will entertain small children and there is no vulgar language that I remember in the movie. There is a dangerous situation that may frighten very young children.
The Ruins -- (R)
Finally, an R rated horror movie. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy PG-13, PG and even G rated movies. However -- and there's always a however in life -- if you're going to call yourself a horror movie, you should at least be scary. R rated movies can be. Once you see this movie, you will never look at your petunias and roses the same way.
Rumor Has It -- PG-13
This is a very good "sequel" to The Graduate. Jennifer Aniston finds out that her grandmother (Shirley McClain) is the inspiration for Mrs. Robinson, and her mother was the confused girl who ran off with Dustin Hoffman. In reality, her mother returned and married her father and had her, but the Dustin Hoffman character was inspired by Kevin Costner, who told the story to his college roommate, the original writer of the book, The Graduate. Now that I have you completely confused, know this: the movie is good and funny.
The Runaway Jury -- PG - 13
Great acting from an ensemble cast of veterans. Movie had several agenda's -- anti-gun, anti-military, anti-capitalism and pro-gay; however, (and there's always a however in life) if you go in to see a good movie, you won't be dissapointed.
Run, Fatboy, Run -- PG-13
Simon Pegg continues his string of successful, funny movies. In this one, he plays a man unwilling to commit to Thandie Newton on their wedding day. He runs away. AND she is pregnant. Five years later he wants to prove he's ready to her, but she has a boyfriend who runs marathons. To convince her of his now unflinching love, he enters the marathon.
The Rundown -- PG -13
The "Rock" shows he can actually act in this adventure movie that is better than I believed it would be. Christopher Walken is the villian and what more can you say? Fun, fun, fun.
Running Scared -- R
Joey (Paul Walker) travels with the Italian mobsters to a drug buy from the Jamaican peddlers, only to have the buy interrupted by a group of masked gunmen. After the gun fight that ensues, the mob discovers the masked gunmen were policemen. With all of the Jamaican drug dealers dead, Paul Walker is given the job of getting rid of the guns used to shot the crooked cops. Instead, he hides the guy and a young boy (Cameron Bright) uses it to killed his meth drugged father. Although the only black people in the movie were the Jamaicans at the beginning, the mobsters insist on using the "N" word. I couldn't understand why that word would even be in this movie. Paul Walker went from being in the number one movie, Eight Below to Running Scared in one week's time. Amazing!
Running with Scissors -- R
I did not like this film. I do not like dysfunctional family dramas. I thought Annette Benning was good, Alec Baldwin was very good, Brian Cox was outstanding however, and theres always a however in life the movie was contrived contrite and utterly unconvincing. Even though it claimed to be based on a true story, I didnt buy it.
R.V. -- PG
This movie has a toned down, but still spastic, Robin Williams who cancels his family trip to Hawaii for an RV trip to Colorado. What he fails to tell his disappointed family is that if he doesnt go to Colorado, he will be replaced on his job by a younger salesman. Very funny, with a great supporting role by Jeff Daniels.
