Movie List

Taking Lives -- R

Angelina Jolie shows her acting "chops" once again. She palys a no nonsense FBI profiler on loan to the Canadian government to help with the tracking of a serial killer with a twist. He kills and takes the identity of the person he kills. Co-starring Ethan Hawke and Olivier Martinez, this movie is very suspenseful and exciting. Nudity and sexual situations and violence are the reason for the R rating.

Talledaga Nights -- PG-13

A two hour excuse for product placement, and a reason for Will Ferrell to run around in his underwear. Not very funny unless you are a big Will Ferrell fan. I’m not.

Tarzan II – G

This tells the story of Tarzan as a child growing up and trying to be the best ape he can be. When he thinks he's failed, he fears running away is the only solution to his problem. He soon learns that's not the way to a solution.

Team America: World Police – R

A very innovative, clever and funny political satire movie staring puppets. Some of the movie was meant to be insightful and some was meant to be disgusting; however – and there’s always a however in life – all of it was meant to be funny. It has equal parts ridicule of the left leaning politicos of Hollywood, and right wing conservatives. A nude puppet sex scene (I know you’re wondering how that happened) almost earned the movie an NC-17 rating, but modifications lowered it to R. This movie is definitely not for children, but can be a lot of fun for open minded adults.

10,000 B.C.  -- PG-13

Beautiful scenery, very good special effects, stupid story line and insulting execution.  Wait for the sequel -- 9,999 B.C.

The Terminal -- PG-13

I wondered how a movie about a non-English speaking immigrant in an airport terminal could be a good movie. I found out how. I loved this movie. Tom Hanks made this role believable, funny and interesting. Catherine Zeta-Jones made this movie realistic. The non-Hollywood ending was true to life and surprising. The slight sexual situations and the mention of drugs made this a PG-13 movie.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines -- R

Arnold is back! In this installment of the Terminator series, Arnold's one-liners parody the Terminator movies. He's funny with a straight face, which makes the movie more enjoyable than the plot makes it. I loved the fight scene between him and Kristanna Loken ( T X ) in the restroom. It looked real. The R rating is for extreme violence and brief nudity.

The Texas Chainsaw Masscre -- R

Gruesome copy of the original movie that was supposed to be based on a true story. The only similarity to the truth is that Ed Geins, the true serial killer, used human skin for "various" things, Great special effects and gory action make this R rating just. I must admit, though, I liked this better than the original.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning -- R

Slasher film in the tradition of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This movie tells the true story of a family that killed and ate over 30 people during the early 60's in Texas, using a physically deformed adopted son.

The Thing About My Folks -- PG-13

Paul Reiser and Peter Faulk are both underrated actors. This movie about the relationship of a father and his son when the son is grown is heartfelt and touching. Since the actors are so good, the film has character, is funny and will make you laugh and cry. A must see film for every man who grew up with his father in the house. It shows we don’t know our father’s as well as we think. Only as well as they allow. The PG-13 is due to language.

Things We Lost in the Fire -- R

A movie of unbelievable power. Halle Berry stars as a woman married to David Dukovney, a man of impeccable integrity and character. When her husband is killed helping a woman being attacked by her own husband, Halle reaches out to one of David's drug addicted friends (Benicio Del Toro) because her husband was the only one who still believed in him. Very good movie for adults.

13...going on 30 -- PG-13

Jennifer Garner is really good in this female version of Ton Hank's Big. The movie is fun and funny, but has a risque strip scene and sensual situations that gave this movie the 13 of it's PG-13 rating. Only Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday was better than Jennifer in this fun movie.

30 Days of Night -- R

In a small Alaskan town, shut off from civilization during the winter, the town sheriff (Josh Hartnett) must save it from attack by creatures of the night during it's 30 days of no sunlight. Loved it, but not for kids!

This Christmas -- PG-13

The matriarch (Loretta Devine) of a family of grown children (Chris Brown, Regina King, Idris Elba, Christopher Short, Sharon Leal and Lauren London) has a man friend (Delroy Lindo) living with her that her oldest son (Idris Elba) does not like. At a family Christmas gathering secrets, likes and dislikes come to the forefront. For families with older children.

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride -- PG

This claymation movie is quirky, in the Tim Burton vein. Featuring the voices of Christopher Lee, Helen Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp, Albert Finney and others, the story is about a young man in an arranged marriage who runs into the woods to escape his responsibilities before the wedding ceremony. He accidentally places the wedding ring on the finger of a corpse, who declares herself his wife. Fun for the entire family over 12, but scary for smaller children. I felt the rating should have carried a 13 to the PG that it did carry.

Timeline -- PG - 13

A time warp to 14th century France leads a boy on a quest to find his father who is stuck in the past. Mild crude language and suggestive scenes makes this movie PG-13. Paul Walker is good in car chase movies, but he's unbelieveable in this.

Torque -- PG-13

Imagine Fast and the Furious on motorcycles and you have this movie. Motorcyclist who are serious about riding will not like the unbelievable stunts, but the rest of us did. Scantilly clad women, sexual situations, drug use, violence and vulgar language earned this movie only a PG-13 rating.

Touching the Void -- documentary

This is a documentary and reenactment of a mountain climb by Joe Simpson and his partner of the west wall of a mountain that had never been climbed before or since. It occured in 1985, and the two men took 3 dfays to make the climb to the summit. On the way back down, however, Joe fell and broke his leg. Incredibly, his friend tried to lower Joe down the mountain in 300 feet increments, at great danger to himself. In a white out, Joe was lowered over the edge of the mountain and his friend cut him loose to save his own life. The movie takes off from there. Some cursing and traumatic situations, but a "must see" for mountaineers.

Troy -- R

Extremely good movie IF you're into ancient mythology or ancient warfare. It was hard to imagine Brad Pitt as Achilles, the mightiest hero of all times. Then, when I saw the movie, he really sold his part. Not only is he taller than I thought, he was buff for the part, and his acting is always superb. Eric Bana was ideal for the role of Hector, and Orlando Bloom was very believeble as Paris. It was good seeing Peter O'Toole in a good, dramatic role again. The realistic war violence, nudity and sexual situations earned this movie it's R rating.

28 Days Later -- R

After breaking into an animal testing laboratory where monkeys are forced to watch violent television programs of news events, animal rights activist release the monkeys -- only to be attacked and bitten and infected with a virus that turns humans into murderous zombies within 10 - 20 seconds. 28 days later, the virus has spread throughout London, and there is rumors that it has spread through the "civilized" world. A bike courier, a militant female, a young girl and her father head out together for Manchest, England to meet up with the military and find a "solution" to their problem. Little do they know, their problems are just beginning. Gory violence, vulgar language and nudity earned this movie an R rating.

28 Weeks Later -- R

The Rage virus that almost destroys Great Britain is finally contained, with the help of the American military, and survivors go to London to start a new life. Unfortunately, the virus isn't as dead as was thought, and the infection starts again.

21 -- PG-13

A very good movie about six kids from M.I.T. college that go to Las Vegas to beat the houses at blackjack.  Based on a true story, this was entertaining, educational and funny.

Twisted -- R

Great story premise. A female cop (Ashley Judd) is tracking a serial killer. This serial killer is killing men she slept with. It also turns out, her father was a serial killer also. That makes her, her own best suspect! Viloence and violent sexuality earned this movie it's R rating -- and name.

Two Brothers -- PG

A touchy, feely movie that I thoroughly enjoyed about the life of two tigers from cub to adult. The movie stars Guy Pierce as a thoughful, introspective hunter in the jungles of India.

2Fast 2Furious -- PG-13

An action film where the plot is immaterial. The cars are fast, the women are scantily clad and the men are chiseled. The movie shows a general disregard for law enforcement but teaches that friendship is forever. Several uses of gutter language throughout the movie fit the characters. The "rap" soundtrack deleted several words in the background of the film. The difference between this movie and the first Fast and Furious is that Vin Diesal played the "James Dean" quiet and strong anti-hero. Tyree is a strong anti-hero, in this film, but he brings humor to the table. Teenagers and above will enjoy it.

Two for the Money -- R

An insiders look at sport betting. With Al Pacino and Matthew McCoughey pulling off better than average performances, this movie is a pleaser for men and women. The vulgar language earned this movie it’s R rating.

Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns -- PG-13

This hilarious movie, based on the Tyler Perry morality play of the same name.  Get to meet the Brown family at the same time that Angela Bassett meets them and finds out she is one of them.  With nothing to lose and everything to gain, she travels from Chicago to Georgia to attend the funeral of a father she never met.  The adult secrets she learns are the reason for the rating and the hilarity of the movie.

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? -- PG-13

A Tyler Perry movie without his Madea character where his 3 couples that are friends take a joint vacation in the mountains to renew their romances and marriages.  Although Janet Jackson got most of the critical acclaim -- and she was very, very good -- the movie was stolen by Jill Scott, a singer turned actress.  One of the better rated movies, the PG-13 rating is exactly who this movie is for -- 13 and older.
