XIII
Rated: M for Mature, 17+ only for violence and language

A fairly standard first-person shooter game that, until someone betters Halo, is always doomed to bad comparisons. Its cal-based art is amazingly cool, granted, but the gameplay, while smooth, is really familiar. Essentially a James Bond title with stylized graphics, the large number of levels and nice selection of weapons don't do much to disguise the fact that this is just an aggressively ordinary shooting game that completists will enjoy, but the casual would do well to avoid. You wake without your memory, people try to kill you and someone calls you "13" - fight to stay alive and to learn the secrets of your identity. XIII is voiced by David Duchovny in his standard, laconic drawl - little else of interest including an online 16-player multi-deathmatch function that's fun, but nothing that Unreal Tournament didn't do as well years ago.
